Shell has been finding and producing oil and gas for over a century. Our Upstream International business searches for and recovers oil and natural gas across the world, except the Americas. This spans from exploration activities to the commercial delivery of major upstream projects and to Production. Many of these activities are carried out as joint venture partnerships, often with national oil companies. The business also liquefies gas and is active in gas to liquids technology. Requirements:
Minimum BSc or equivalent degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Petroleum Engineering. Preference lies at MSc level or higher.

A good general knowledge of Liquid Hydrocarbon and Gas production, processing and operations is required. Relevant skills are in solids crystallization, corrosion control, water treatment and micro-biology.

You will have proven experience in the Oilfield Process Chemistry operations. Alternatively, extensive experience in related oilfield activities.

IT skills, preferred knowledge on the specialist process chemistry software as ScaleChem and StreamAnalyzer.
Good communications skills.
Positive Health, Safety, Security and Environmental mindset.
Driver license.
Speaking the Dutch language has preference.

Responsibilities:
The Process Chemist is a member of a diverse team of specialists, dealing with a large range of chemical engineering and chemistry challenges, related to on - and offshore oil and gas production operations, covering a large geographical span in the Netherlands and the Southern UK. Work is carried out in multidisciplinary teams.

The work involves:
• Provision of expert technical (chemistry) advice on corrosion inhibition management, produced fluids treatment, phase separation, the management of hydrates, scales, wax and asphaltenes, all including prediction, removal, monitoring and troubleshooting.

• Management, design and troubleshooting of chemical treatments, including selection, application, optimal deployment, meeting legislative requirements, all in line with contractual obligations. Working together with and managing chemical vendors.

• For trouble shooting activities,the Process Chemist is often the interface towards the internal laboratory activities. Interpretation of the findings to the rest of the organization is a key responsibility.

• Ensure effective liaison is maintained with the Asset operation, Value Creation / Realization teams and Well services, other disciplines both out with and within Development Engineering (e.g. Production Technology, Process Engineering, Corrosion Engineering, Geo-Chemistry etc).

• To monitor various operating parameters and intervene proactively.

• Responsible for effective and timely input into New Fields Development Projects, meeting design and operating expectations. Focus is on chemical selection, injection and sampling strategy and in general chemistry know how input.

• Support legislative requirements, such as oil discharge to sea targets, water disposal and chemical permits.

• New chemical technology development and deployment. Work together with external institutes and Shell Global Solutions.

The job dimensions are:
• Incumbent works relatively independently, supported by the rest of the Shell Europe Process Chemistry team, with a considerable level of interaction with external vendors, expertise holders and laboratories.
• Working is a group of 15 professionals,the applicant has no direct subordinates, however, could manage chemical supplier contractor staff and possibly various external project support staff.
• The work involves both office and on- and offshore field activities.
• Managing chemical contracts.
• Knowledge sharing across the global Shell organization.
