British Gas, part of Centrica plc the top 30 FTSE listed energy company, is the UK’s leading energy business and the largest domestic supplier of gas and electricity with more than 16m energy accounts. Over the last two years the company has been on an exciting journey of change.

As part of these changes, we now need an additional Communications Manager to work as part of our Central Communications function, but with specific responsibility for the biggest single transformational programme within British Gas. In this role, you) will play a pivotal role in the deployment of a major Programme of work impacting British Gas across the next three years.

* Based: Staines
* Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 + Bonus & Benefits

Working closely with the Programme Board, Senior Managers from a wide variety of key projects, and the Central Communications Team, you will develop and deliver a communications approach that supports and engages employees through the change process, leading to commitment and advocacy for the Programme.

This role initially provides the opportunity to deliver specialist Change Communications expertise on behalf of this Programme, but also opens doors to a wide and varied Transformation programme that includes, amongst other things, New Energy generation and Smart Metering.

* Managing the overall Programme Communications Plan, including responsibility for the communication requirements of a number of complex cross-business projects at any one time
* Helping the business understand the programme, its impact on the strategy and their role in its success
* Working as part of the Central Communications Team to ensure that the programme is communicated as a core part of its wider strategy and ongoing programme of engagement

Knowledge, skills and experience

* Exceptional planning and organisation skills
* Experience of delivering large change programmes in complex organisations
* Advanced stakeholder management skills
* Experience in managing and delivering a range of comms activities including Intranet, events, face-to-face briefings, video production
* An in depth knowledge of general communications theory and practice (including evaluation techniques), specifically change management communications.
* A strong track record of high performance and delivering results
* The ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation
* Communication skills - strong verbal and written skills
* Diplomacy - sound judgement, with the ability to act with tact and discretion and remain calm under pressure
* Educated to degree level or equivalent
* The ability to influence at all levels and coach where necessary
* A strong delivery focus once the messages and plan have been set
* Excellent writing and proof-reading skills
* Experience in managing third party suppliers
* Highly organised, self-starter

Key Accountabilities& Responsibilities

* Develop and deliver the Programme’s communications strategy approach and plan
* Develop a clear understanding of the projects and programmes and their impact on the business to develop and reinforce key messages.
* Ensure that communications across the various projects and programme are consistent, timely and appropriate to prevent mixed messages or clashing messages
* Planning and execution of all communications at programme and project level, to ensure that the relevant parties are aware of requirements, such as Central Team and project or programme business leads.
* Deliver all activities in alignment with agreed Central Communications processes
* Working across the established Communications Business Partner network to ensure robust local plans
* Mitigate the impact of the change programme on employee morale and motivation through the development and implementation of an effective internal communications strategy
* Baseline and measure communications effectiveness
* Support and coach the Programme Team and the various project teams in Comms Strategy, Approach/Toolkit and communications best practice
* Planning and coordination of written programme communications
* As a specialist in Change Communications, assist in the development of change comms toolkits and competencies across the British Gas Communications function
